Not your usual walk/run. . .

Each year Variety the Children’s Charity and Variety Young Professionals (VYP) host an Annual Wheelchair Grand Prix (WGP) event. This is not your typical walk/run fundraiser.  By pushing empty wheelchairs over a 1/2 mile Pittsburgh North Shore relay course, we create a greater awareness of Variety’s programs and services for children with disabilities in our communities and have a blast doing it!

We are excited to see that each year this event grows bigger and better through the continued support of past participants and many new friends -- wheelers, families, volunteers, sponsors and patrons.

Get involved by being a “wheeler.”

We refer to our participants as “wheelers” because, no matter if you decide to run or walk, each participant pushes an empty wheelchair through the 1/2 mile course.  This is what separates us from other run/walk events.  Pushing a wheelchair helps to remind us that we are doing this for kids who need wheelchairs or other vital enabling equipment.

Wheelers can sign up individually or as a team (suggested). Team size may vary; however, we recommend teams of 5 to 6 people.  Online registration will be available when planning for the 2010 Wheelchair Grand Prix gets underway.  Each wheeler receives a free T-shirt, refreshments and a chance to win great prizes.  Event day registration is at 8:30 a.m.
